His eyes went bloodshot when he played, and the fury behind them was real. Kyle Vanden Bosch spent four quiet, injury-slowed years in Arizona after the Cardinals took him in the second round of the 2001 draft out of Nebraska, where he had carried a 3.82 GPA and a reputation as the hardest worker in the building. Anonymity followed him until Tennessee signed him to a one-year deal in 2005. He answered with 12.5 sacks and 100 tackles, then added 12 more sacks and 115 tackles in 2007. A three-time Pro Bowler, he chased quarterbacks with a relentless, red-faced intensity that made him the emotional center of the Titans defense and later the Lions, where he reunited with coordinator-turned-coach Jim Schwartz.
Madden logged the climb honestly. He sat at 68 in the 2001 edition as a rookie afterthought and lingered in the low 70s through 2005, then surged to 88 in the 2006 edition and 90 in 2007 once the sacks piled up.
