Notre Dame punter with 1,150 punts and a Super Bowl ring

Craig Hentrich was born on May 18, 1971, in Alton, Illinois, and handled both punting and placekicking at Notre Dame, finishing with a school-record 44.1-yard punting average and 39 field goals. The New York Jets drafted him in the eighth round in 1993, 200th overall, then released him in training camp. Green Bay signed him to its practice squad that September and gave him the punting job in 1994.

He set a Packers record with 28 punts inside the 20 in 1996 and punted seven times in Green Bay's Super Bowl XXXI win over New England. Madden NFL 97 rated him 37 for that season. He joined the Tennessee Oilers in 1998 and led the NFL in both gross average (47.2) and net average (39.2), earning first-team All-Pro honors and his first Pro Bowl selection. Madden NFL 99 put him at a calculated 61 for 1998.

Hentrich won Pro Football Weekly's Golden Toe Award in 1999, the year he hit a career-long 78-yard punt against Pittsburgh. Madden NFL 04 rated him 88 for 2003, when he took a second Pro Bowl and All-Pro selection, and Madden NFL 05 rated him 96 for 2004. He punted for Tennessee through 2009 and retired with 1,150 punts and a 42.9-yard career average.
