A workhorse who ran for a career-high 14 touchdowns at 31

Arizona made Thomas Jones the seventh overall pick out of Virginia in 2000, and for a while it looked like a mistake, bouncing through the Cardinals and a season in Tampa Bay before Chicago revived him. He carried the Bears to Super Bowl XLI, running for 112 yards in the loss to Indianapolis, then got traded to the Jets and somehow got better as he aged. In 2008 he made the Pro Bowl, and in 2009, at 31, he scored a career-high 14 rushing touchdowns. He finished with 10,591 rushing yards and 68 scores across twelve seasons and five teams, rarely missing a Sunday.

Madden's number told the story of a slow build and a late bloom. He arrived at 82 as a rookie in the 2000 edition, sagged into the low 70s during the Arizona years, then climbed as Chicago and New York fed him carries, reaching a 90 in the 2009 edition. It held in the high 80s before easing to 84 in the 2011 game as he handed off the load in Kansas City.
