188 starts and a Jets contract fight nobody forgot

Pete Kendall started 188 of the 189 games he played, which tells you most of what a team wanted from a guard taken 21st overall out of Boston College in 1996. He opened his career in Seattle, spent years in Arizona, then anchored the Jets line before a contract fight with coach Eric Mangini in 2007 got him relegated to the rookie dorms and traded to Washington.

He was never a household name, and that was the value of him, more than a decade of showing up and finishing every Sunday. His Madden grade reflected the long climb: a modest 60 in the 1996 edition, rising past 90 in the mid-2000s and topping out at 92 in the 2005 edition. He wrapped up in Washington in 2008 and later became a visible voice in the players' union.
