Todd Collins: Michigan QB, Bills Starter, Long-Serving Backup

Todd Collins was born on November 5, 1971, in Walpole, Massachusetts, and played college football at Michigan, finishing with 5,858 passing yards and 37 touchdowns. The Buffalo Bills selected him in the second round of the 1995 NFL draft with the 45th pick. He played seven games as a rookie, a season Madden NFL 96 gave a calculated 53.

Jim Kelly retired after the 1996 season and Collins won the job, starting 13 games in 1997 for 2,367 yards with 12 touchdowns and 13 interceptions; Madden NFL 98 gave him a calculated 69 for that year. Buffalo released him and he signed with Kansas City, where he took no regular-season snaps for three years and appeared in 12 games between 2001 and 2005. He signed with Washington in March 2006.

On December 6, 2007, Collins relieved the injured Jason Campbell and completed 15 of 20 passes for 224 yards and two touchdowns against Chicago, winning NFC Offensive Player of the Week. He started the final three games as Washington reached the playoffs and was named NFC Offensive Player of the Month for December; the gap to his previous start measured ten years and two days, a post-merger NFL record. Madden NFL 09 listed him at 85 for 2008 and Madden NFL 10 at 64 for 2009. His last start came for Chicago on October 10, 2010, when he threw four interceptions against Carolina. He finished with 4,547 passing yards, 22 touchdowns and 24 interceptions.
