Cut by the Cardinals, he became a Pro Bowl anchor

Jeff Christy's NFL career nearly ended before it began. The Phoenix Cardinals took the Pittsburgh center 91st overall in 1992, then cut him, and he missed the entire season. Minnesota signed him off the scrap heap, and by the late 1990s he was anchoring one of the league's best offensive lines.

Christy made three straight Pro Bowls from 1998 through 2000 and earned first-team All-Pro honors in 1998 and 1999, snapping the ball for the record-setting 1998 Vikings offense. He signed with Tampa Bay in 2000 and started at center for the Buccaneers team that won Super Bowl XXXVII over Oakland. In all he started 139 of the 148 games he played.

His Madden trajectory mirrors that rise. A 62 in the 1996 edition reflected an unproven backup, but once the honors arrived his rating held near the top of the position: an 89 in 2000, a career-high 90 in the 2001 game, and an 86 in 2002 as he neared the finish. He retired after the 2003 season and went home to Saxonburg, Pennsylvania.
