Rob Moore was born on September 27, 1968 in Hempstead, New York, and played college football at Syracuse, where he was a second-team All-American in 1989. The New York Jets took him in the first round of the 1990 supplemental draft. He caught 44 passes for 692 yards as a rookie and made the PFWA All-Rookie team. Madden NFL 93 listed a calculated 66 for his 1992 season.

Moore caught 78 passes for 1,010 yards in 1994 and was selected to his first Pro Bowl; Madden NFL 95 carried a calculated 98 for that year. He moved to the Arizona Cardinals in 1995 and passed 1,000 yards again in 1996.

In 1997 Moore led the NFL with 1,584 receiving yards on 97 receptions, was named first-team All-Pro and made a second Pro Bowl. He was targeted 209 times that season, an NFL record, and Madden NFL 98 rated the year a calculated 79. Injuries kept him out of the 2000 and 2001 seasons, and 1999 was his last on the field; Madden NFL 2000 listed a calculated 85 for it. Moore finished with 628 receptions for 9,368 yards and 49 touchdowns in 153 games, 146 of them starts.
