Chris Doleman was born on October 16, 1961 in Indianapolis, played college football at Pittsburgh, and was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings fourth overall in 1985. He spent two seasons at linebacker before moving to right defensive end in 1987, when he had 11 sacks and was named second-team All-Pro. He led the NFL with 21 sacks in 1989 and had 14.5 in 1992, the two seasons he was named first-team All-Pro.
Madden NFL 94 gave him a calculated 59 for the 1993 season, in which he had 12.5 sacks and reached his sixth Pro Bowl. He signed with Atlanta in 1994, a season Madden NFL 95 put at a calculated 82, and had nine sacks and another Pro Bowl selection in 1995. San Francisco signed him in 1996 and he had 11 sacks; Madden NFL 97 stored him at 64.
He had 12 sacks in 1997 at age 36 and 15 in 1998 at 37, the second-highest single-season total of his career, and Madden NFL 99 rated that 1998 season at a calculated 91. He returned to Minnesota for 1999, added eight sacks, and retired with 150.5 sacks, 232 games and eight Pro Bowl selections over 15 seasons. He was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2012. Doleman died of glioblastoma on January 28, 2020 in Duluth, Georgia, at 58.
