The highest-paid fullback of 2007, and one Pro Bowl
Ovie Mughelli was born on June 10, 1980 in Charleston, South Carolina, and played fullback at Wake Forest, where he was first-team All-ACC as a senior. Baltimore drafted him in the fourth round in 2003, 134th overall, and he spent his rookie season as a lead blocker for Jamal Lewis, who ran for 2,066 yards that year.
He played six games as a rookie and became a fixture in the lineup by 2006, a second-team All-Pro season. Madden NFL 06 had rated him 78. Atlanta signed him in March 2007 to a six-year, $18 million contract, the largest given to a fullback at the time, to block for Warrick Dunn and Jerious Norwood, and Madden NFL 08 opened his Atlanta run at 91.
He made his only Pro Bowl after the 2010 season, a second-team All-Pro year, and Madden NFL 12 rated him 94, his highest, covering a 2011 season that lasted seven games. Atlanta released him in May 2012 and he did not play again, finishing with 107 games, 51 starts and 62 receptions. He founded the Ovie Mughelli Foundation, an environmental education nonprofit, and entered the Wake Forest Sports Hall of Fame in 2025.
