A fifth-round center who started two Super Bowls
He won a national title at Florida in 1996, then went in the fifth round to Baltimore in 1997 and turned a late-round flier into a long career at center. He started for the 2000 Ravens, whose historic defense carried them past the Giants in Super Bowl XXXV, snapping the ball in one of the great defensive seasons the league has seen.
Free agency took him to Carolina in 2001, and two years later he anchored the line for a Panthers team that reached Super Bowl XXXVIII, allowing a franchise-low 26 sacks and clearing room for a team-record 2,091 rushing yards in 2003. He started 118 of the 119 games he played across nine seasons.
His Madden overall reflected that steadiness, rising through the 80s to touch 91 in the 2005 edition. Centers rarely draw notice, but Mitchell made two Super Bowls with two franchises, which is more than most linemen with louder reputations can claim.
