Jerricho Cotchery was born on June 16, 1982 in Birmingham, Alabama, played at North Carolina State, and was taken by the New York Jets in the fourth round of the 2004 draft, 108th overall. He caught six passes as a rookie behind an established group of receivers. Madden NFL 05 listed him at 69 for the 2004 season.

He became a full-time starter in 2006 and caught 82 passes for 961 yards. He caught 82 again in 2007 for a career-high 1,130 yards, including 165 yards against Baltimore in Week 2, and Madden NFL 08 put him at 86 for that season. Madden NFL 09 listed him at 89 for 2008, the highest figure of his career. In the AFC Championship Game on January 24, 2010 he caught five passes for 102 yards in a 30-17 loss to Indianapolis.

Cotchery signed with Pittsburgh in 2011 and caught 46 passes for 602 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2013, his best season for scores. He moved to Carolina in 2014 and started 13 games, and Madden NFL 15 listed him at 80 for that season. He played in Super Bowl 50 after the 2015 season. He finished with 524 receptions for 6,623 yards and 34 touchdowns in 175 games.
