Julius Jones was born August 14, 1981, in Big Stone Gap, Virginia, and played at Notre Dame, where he set a single-game school record with 262 rushing yards against Pittsburgh in 2003. The Dallas Cowboys took him in the second round, 43rd overall, in 2004. He fractured his scapula in the second game and later ran for 150 yards and two touchdowns against his brother Thomas and the Chicago Bears on Thanksgiving. Madden NFL 05 rated him 74 for that season.
A high ankle sprain cost him three games in 2005 and he finished seven yards short of 1,000, a season for which Madden NFL 06 rated him 86. In 2006 he started all 16 games and ran for 1,084 yards. He and Thomas were the first brothers to each rush for 1,000 yards in the same year. Madden NFL 07 rated him 87 for 2006.
Marion Barber took a larger share of the carries and Jones dropped to 588 yards in 2007. He signed with Seattle in March 2008, led the Seahawks in rushing in 2008 and 2009, and Madden NFL 09 rated him 84 for 2008. Seattle released him in October 2010 after trading for Marshawn Lynch, and he finished the year in New Orleans. He ended his career with 5,068 rushing yards and 22 rushing touchdowns.
