Hamilton grew up around the position. His father, Wes, started at guard for the Vikings, and Ben became a two-time consensus All-American at Minnesota before Denver spent a fourth-round pick on him in 2001. He fit the Broncos' zone-blocking scheme perfectly, a lighter, quicker interior lineman who could reach the second level and cut off backside pursuit, the exact traits Alex Gibbs wanted while Denver churned out 1,000-yard rushers almost on demand.

Hamilton started 110 of the 118 games he played across ten seasons, nearly all of them in Denver before a final year in Seattle in 2010.
