Patrick Kerney was born December 30, 1976 in Trenton, New Jersey, played defensive end at Virginia, and was drafted by Atlanta with the 30th pick in 1999. He appeared in 16 games as a rookie with two starts, and Madden NFL 2000 put him at a calculated 82 for that season. Madden NFL 02 rated him 70 for 2001, his second year as a full-time starter.
Kerney recorded 13 sacks in 2004 and was selected to his first Pro Bowl, and Madden NFL 05 rated him 92 for that season. He played nine games in 2006, his last year in Atlanta. He signed with Seattle on March 6, 2007, led the NFC with 14.5 sacks that season, and was named NFC Defensive Player of the Year along with a second Pro Bowl selection.
Madden NFL 09 rated him 95 for 2008, a year shoulder trouble cut to seven games and which ended in surgery. He played 15 games in 2009 and had a second shoulder operation afterward. Kerney announced his retirement on April 13, 2010 with 82.5 career sacks. He earned an MBA from Columbia Business School in 2012.
