Columbia tailback turned Charger with 44 career sacks

Marcellus Wiley was born on November 30, 1974 in Compton, California. At Columbia he played tailback, defensive end and kick returner, moved to defensive end full time as a senior, and was named first-team All-Ivy League and a first-team All-American. Buffalo drafted him in the second round of the 1997 draft with the 52nd pick, and Madden NFL 98 gave him a calculated 40 for that rookie season.

Wiley worked as a situational pass rusher for three years. When Bruce Smith left for Washington in 2000, Wiley took over at defensive end, started 15 games and recorded 10.5 sacks, and Madden NFL 2001 listed him at 84 for the season. He signed with San Diego in 2001 and posted 13 sacks and 48 tackles, earning an AFC Pro Bowl place and second-team All-Pro honors, and Madden NFL 02 listed him at 88 for that year.

His 2002 season brought six sacks in 14 games, and Madden NFL 03 put him at a career-high 93 for the year. He spent 2004 with Dallas and 2005 and 2006 with Jacksonville, recording no sacks in either Jaguars season. Wiley last played in 2006, finishing with 44 sacks and 322 tackles in 147 games over ten seasons.
