Nate Singleton was an eleventh-round pick out of Grambling State, just the receiver who makes a roster on special teams and hopes to stick. He stuck for four seasons in San Francisco, from 1993 to 1996, a depth receiver behind Jerry Rice and John Taylor who caught a handful of passes and won a Super Bowl ring on the 1994 team.

Madden's cards of him contain one of the wildest glitches on the entire roster. The game rated Singleton a 97 for the 1994 season, a number that belongs to a first-team All-Pro and could not be more absurd for a receiver who caught a dozen passes a year, then swung to an 18 two cards later. The 97 and the 18 are both nonsense, precisely the scraping errors that turn up on players the game has almost no real data about, and Singleton was exactly that kind of player.

He finished with 38 catches for 539 yards across a five-year career that also included a stop with the Ravens, then went into high school coaching in Louisiana. Singleton was a depth receiver and a special-teamer with a ring, and the truth of his career is somewhere far below the phantom 97. The number is a glitch.
