Notre Dame's Rocket who chose the CFL over the NFL draft

Raghib Ismail was projected to go first overall in the 1991 NFL Draft. Instead he stunned the football world and signed a record contract with the CFL's Toronto Argonauts, where he won a Grey Cup and its MVP as a rookie, breaking an 87-yard kickoff return in the title game.

At Notre Dame the speed was almost cartoonish. He finished second to Ty Detmer for the 1990 Heisman and won the Walter Camp Award, and his 1989 game against Michigan, with two kickoff returns for scores, became part of his legend. The Raiders held his NFL rights and finally landed him with the 100th pick, and he later ran deep for Carolina and Dallas, posting 1,024 receiving yards in 1998 and 1,097 in 1999.

Madden mapped that arc plainly. He is a raw 39 in the 1996 edition, climbs to a 90 in the 2000 game after his big receiving seasons, then settles to an 83 in the 2001 edition.
