Ty Detmer: 1990 Heisman winner, 25 NFL starts in 14 seasons
Ty Detmer was born on October 30, 1967 in San Marcos, Texas. He played at BYU from 1987 to 1991, set NCAA records with 15,031 passing yards and 121 touchdown passes, and won the Heisman Trophy, the Maxwell Award and the Davey O'Brien Award in 1990. Green Bay drafted him in the ninth round, 230th overall, in 1992, and he appeared in seven games across four seasons behind Brett Favre. Madden NFL 96 carried a calculated 53 overall for his 1995 season.
Detmer signed with Philadelphia in 1996 and took over after Rodney Peete's knee injury, winning each of his first four starts. He threw four touchdown passes to Irving Fryar against Miami and a career-high 342 yards against Carolina, finishing the year with 2,911 yards and 15 touchdowns. Madden NFL 98 carried a calculated 79 overall for the 1997 season, his highest figure. He spent 1998 as Steve Young's backup in San Francisco and started once, against Carolina.
Cleveland acquired him in 1999 to mentor rookie Tim Couch, and he started the opener and the finale; Madden NFL 2000 carried a calculated 77 for that season. An Achilles injury cost him the 2000 season. He started four games for Detroit in 2001, throwing seven interceptions in one of them against Cleveland. He finished with 54 games, 25 starts, 6,351 passing yards and 34 touchdowns, and was BYU's offensive coordinator from 2015 to 2017.
