12th-round pick, Super Bowl XXX MVP, three Dallas titles

Larry Brown was born on November 30, 1969 in Miami, Florida, played at Los Angeles Southwest College and then TCU, and was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the 12th round, 320th overall, in 1991. He started 13 games at right cornerback as a rookie.

Brown started at least 15 games in each of the next four seasons and won Super Bowls XXVII, XXVIII and XXX with Dallas. Madden NFL 93 put him at a calculated 59 for the 1992 season and Madden NFL 94 at a calculated 99 for 1993. In Super Bowl XXX on January 28, 1996, he intercepted Neil O'Donnell twice in the second half, with both turnovers setting up Dallas touchdowns in a 27-17 win, and he was named the game's MVP, the first cornerback to receive it.

The Oakland Raiders signed him on February 20, 1996 to a five-year contract worth $12.5 million. He played eight games that season and four in 1997, was suspended by the club, and returned to Dallas for four games in 1998. Madden NFL 97 rated him 63 for the 1996 season and Madden NFL 98 put him at a calculated 79 for 1997. He finished with 14 interceptions for 210 yards and two touchdowns.

How to read these: Each row is the player’s rating in that year’s Madden, listed by the NFL season it covers (Madden NFL 2001 = the 2000 season). Madden sets its ratings before the season is played, so they reflect the previous season’s performance - a player’s breakout year tends to show up as a jump in the following year’s game.
About the starred rows*: Several early Madden releases rated players on a 1-15 scale, as printed in the game manuals, rather than the modern 0-99. We store those ratings converted to 0-99 (each manual point is about 6.6) so you can compare players across eras at a glance - use the 0-99 / 1-15 toggle above the table to see the original numbers on those seasons. EA didn’t publish an overall rating in those games, so the OVR* values for those years are our own calculation, the average of the player’s two best ratings.
Note: Some Madden releases tracked fewer attributes than others. Cells shown as - were not published by EA that year.
