Randall Cunningham was born on March 27, 1963, in Santa Barbara, California, was a first-team All-American punter at UNLV in 1983 and 1984, and was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the second round of the 1985 draft, 37th overall. He punted 20 times in the NFL for a 44.7-yard average, including a 91-yarder against the Giants on December 3, 1989 that set the Eagles franchise record.
He was a second-team All-Pro in 1988 and made the Pro Bowl after the 1988, 1989 and 1990 seasons, and the Pro Football Writers of America named him NFL Most Valuable Player for 1990, when he rushed for 942 yards. Madden NFL 92 put him at a calculated 89 for 1991, a season that ended after one game with a torn ACL. He was a second-team All-Pro again in 1992, and Madden NFL 95 put him at a calculated 96 for 1994.
Out of football in 1996, he signed with Minnesota and in 1998 threw 34 touchdowns against 10 interceptions, led the league with a 106.0 passer rating and took first-team All-Pro honors and a fourth Pro Bowl. On October 5 of that season he passed for 442 yards and four touchdowns against Green Bay. Madden NFL 2000 put him at a calculated 90 for 1999. Cunningham retired in August 2002 with 29,979 passing yards, 207 touchdowns and 4,928 rushing yards, and entered the College Football Hall of Fame in 2016.
