Nineteen seasons, every line spot, fourteen straight Pro Bowls
Bruce Matthews played 296 regular-season games and started 293 of them, a durability record that reads like a typo. Drafted ninth overall by the Houston Oilers in 1983 out of USC, he lined up at both guard spots, both tackle spots and center across 19 seasons, and did all of it well enough to earn 14 consecutive Pro Bowl selections from 1988 through 2001 and nine first-team All-Pro nods.
He followed the franchise from Houston to Tennessee and blocked in Super Bowl XXXIV, the Titans' loss to the Rams that ended a yard short. When he finally stopped, he had built a football dynasty in his own family, brother Clay and a long line of Matthews men. Canton called in 2007.
Madden treated him like the fixture he was. He rated 74 in the 1996 edition, then settled at a rock-solid 90 in both the 2000 and 2001 games near the end of his career, with an 87 in the 2002 version as he wound down. The number barely moved because neither did he.
