Miami linebacker who played nine seasons in Denver

D.J. Williams was born on July 20, 1982 in Sacramento, California, and played high school football at De La Salle in Concord. He started at linebacker for Miami and was drafted by the Denver Broncos in the first round of the 2004 draft, 17th overall. He appeared in all 16 games as a rookie, a season Madden NFL 05 rated 81.

Denver used him at every linebacker position across nine seasons. Madden NFL 06 rated him 90 for 2005. His 2008 season drew a 95 from Madden NFL 09, the highest figure of his career, and he played 13 games at outside linebacker in 2011, rated 89 by Madden NFL 12.

A suspension under the league's substance-abuse policy kept him out of the first nine games of 2012, and Denver released him on March 11, 2013. He signed with the Chicago Bears eleven days later, and a ruptured pectoral muscle in October 2013 ended that season after six games; Madden NFL 25 rated the year 80. He started 10 of 12 games in 2014 before a neck injury sent him to injured reserve, and he did not play again. In nine seasons with Denver he recorded 899 tackles and 20.5 sacks in 125 games.
