Byron Jones Madden Career 2016-2023 - Peak 91 OVR

Byron Jones announced himself with a broad jump that broke a world record at the 2015 Combine, twelve feet three inches of freakish explosion out of UConn, and Dallas took the athlete 27th that year. He started at safety, then moved to cornerback around 2018 and turned into one of the best cover men in football, the rare defensive back who almost never allowed a touchdown.

The Madden card climbed with the position change. He opened at a 73, hovered as a good safety, then jumped to a 91 peak in Madden NFL 20 once he became a shutdown corner, a Pro Bowler and second-team All-Pro whose 2018 season was so clean the ratings had to reward it. The grade tracked a player who had found his true position and mastered it, the tools finally pointed in the right direction.

The peak paid off in free agency, an eighty-two-million-dollar deal from Miami in 2020 that briefly made him the highest-paid corner in the league, but the body did not cooperate.
