The Toldozer who scored 50 rushing touchdowns from fullback
Mike Tolbert was listed at fullback and used like a battering ram with soft hands. Undrafted out of Coastal Carolina in 2008, he caught on with San Diego and turned short-yardage into a personal specialty. Carolina fans nicknamed him the Toldozer for the way he finished runs, and he backed it up at the goal line for years. He rushed for 50 touchdowns and added 18 more through the air, along with 1,676 rushing yards and 219 catches for 1,585 yards.
He played for the Chargers from 2008 to 2011, spent his best seasons with the Panthers from 2012 to 2016, and finished in Buffalo in 2017. Along the way he made three Pro Bowls and started at fullback for the Carolina team that lost Super Bowl 50 to Denver.
Madden treated him as a project turned prize. He opened at 73 in the 2009 edition, a rotational back, then leapt to 89 in the 2012 game once the Panthers gave him a real role. His peak of 92 held across the 2013 and 2014 editions before the number receded into the high 70s as his workload shrank.
