Todd Gurley was born on August 3, 1994 in Baltimore, Maryland, and grew up in Tarboro, North Carolina. He played college football at Georgia and was drafted tenth overall by the St. Louis Rams in 2015. He rushed for 1,106 yards in 13 games and was named Offensive Rookie of the Year. Madden NFL 16 rated him 80.

In 2017 he led the NFL with 13 rushing touchdowns, 19 total touchdowns and 2,093 yards from scrimmage, and was named AP Offensive Player of the Year. Madden NFL 18 rated him 85. He rushed for 1,251 yards and 17 touchdowns in 2018, sat out the last two regular-season games with knee inflammation, and gained 35 yards on ten carries in the Rams' 13-3 loss in Super Bowl LIII. Madden NFL 19 rated him 92.

It was reported on March 2, 2019 that Gurley had arthritis in his left knee. He scored 12 rushing touchdowns that season without a 100-yard rushing game, and Madden NFL 20 rated him 97. The Rams released him on March 19, 2020. He spent 2020 with Atlanta, rushing for 678 yards and nine touchdowns, did not play in 2021, and said in October 2022 that he was finished. He retired with 6,082 rushing yards and 79 total touchdowns in 88 games.
