Named for Hakeem, the Steelers' every-down constant for a decade

Lawrence Timmons was named after Hakeem Olajuwon by his basketball-loving mother, and he moved like a man who could have played that sport too. The first draft pick of the Mike Tomlin era, taken 15th overall out of Florida State in 2007, he became the heartbeat of Pittsburgh's front seven for a decade.

He could rush, cover and tackle sideline to sideline, and he almost never came off the field, playing all 16 games in each of his final three Steelers seasons. He led the team with 135 tackles in 2010 and made the Pro Bowl in 2014, finishing with 1,089 combined tackles, 23.5 sacks and 10 interceptions. He won a ring in Super Bowl XLIII and started in the XLV loss to Green Bay.

His overall rating climbed from an unproven 74 in the 2009 edition to a run of elite marks, 90 in 2011, a peak of 91 in the 2013 edition, and 90 again in 2015. His one season in Miami in 2017 ended poorly, with a suspension after he went missing before a Week 2 game, and he was released the following spring.
