The Minnesota back who started for New England's 18-1 team
New England took him 21st overall in 2006, the second running back off the board behind Reggie Bush, out of a Minnesota program that had churned out 1,000-yard rushers. As a rookie he split the load and ran hard. Then in 2007, with Corey Dillon gone, he became the starter on the Patriots team that went 18-1, rushing for 835 yards and six touchdowns and adding 244 yards over two playoff games. In Super Bowl XLII against the Giants he carried 14 times for 36 yards and scored on a one-yard plunge in a defeat that ended the perfect run.
The production never really grew from there. He finished with 2,504 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns before a final stop in Denver.
Madden's read on him was front-loaded. He was an 82 in the 2006 edition and an 85 in 2007, reached a 90 in the 2008 edition, then dropped to 78 across the 2009 and 2010 editions and down to 71 by 2011 as his role shrank.
