Cedric Benson was born December 28, 1982, in Midland, Texas, rushed for more than 1,000 yards in each of his four seasons at Texas, and was drafted fourth overall by the Chicago Bears in 2005. He won the Doak Walker Award in 2004 after running for 1,834 yards and 19 touchdowns. Madden NFL 06 rated him an 83 for his rookie season, which he spent as a backup in nine games.
He took over as a starter in 2007, gaining 674 yards in 11 games before Chicago released him. Cincinnati signed him in 2008, and he ran for 747 yards in 12 games. Madden NFL 10 put him at 76 for the 2009 season, the year he carried 301 times for 1,251 yards and finished fourth in Associated Press Comeback Player of the Year voting.
Benson followed with 1,111 yards in 2010 and 1,067 in 2011, giving him three straight 1,000-yard seasons for the Bengals. Madden NFL 11 gave him his highest mark, an 89 for the 2010 season, and Madden NFL 12 listed him at 81 for 2011. He played five games for Green Bay in 2012, his final NFL season. He finished with 1,600 carries for 6,017 rushing yards and 32 rushing touchdowns in 96 games. Benson died on August 17, 2019, at 36, in a motorcycle crash in Austin, Texas.
