A fifth-round Giant who started at four spots and won twice
The Giants took David Diehl in the fifth round in 2003, 160th overall out of Illinois, and he started all 16 games as a rookie, the first Giant to do that since Mark Bavaro in 1985. Over 11 seasons he lined up at left tackle, right tackle and both guard spots, going wherever the line was thinnest and holding up.
He won two rings without ever leaving New York. In Super Bowl XLII he helped protect Eli Manning as the Giants stunned the 18-0 Patriots, and four years later he was back on the winning side in Super Bowl XLVI, a 21-17 rematch decision over New England. He earned second-team All-Pro honors in 2008 and took the Wellington Mara Man of the Year award in 2012.
His Madden number climbed with the team's fortunes. He opened as a 60 in the 2003 edition, settled into the low 80s through the first title run, and hit a career-best 93 in the 2008 game after that Super Bowl XLII season. The ratings drifted back to the mid-70s by his final 2013 edition, tracking a lineman whose value was steadiness more than flash.
