At California, Deltha O'Neal returned four interceptions for touchdowns in a single season, an NCAA record, and Denver spent the 15th overall pick in 2000 to get him. He made the Pro Bowl in 2001 and once tied the NFL record with four interceptions in a single game as a Bronco.
His best year came after a move to Cincinnati. In 2005 he grabbed 10 interceptions to lead the league, tying Ty Law and breaking the Bengals franchise mark of nine that Ken Riley had held since 1976. That season sent him to his second Pro Bowl. He closed out with New England and Houston, finishing as a genuine ball hawk and a dangerous man with the ball in his hands. Years after football he was charged with DUI following a crash. Madden's numbers followed the arc of his takeaways: an 80 in the 2000 edition, dips through the mid-80s, and a peak of 90 in the 2006 game that reflected the ten-pick season.
