A college tight end remade into Denver's blindside protector
Matt Lepsis came to Denver in 1997 as an undrafted tight end from Colorado and rebuilt himself into an offensive tackle. He spent all eleven of his NFL seasons with the Broncos, starting 133 games in the zone-blocking system that turned a rotation of backs into 1,000-yard rushers. As a rookie he was on the roster for the Super Bowl XXXIII championship.
A knee injury ended his 2006 season in a win over Cleveland, and after another injury-shortened year he retired in early 2008 on his own terms rather than hang on for a paycheck. Madden treated him as a slow build: a 77 in the 2000 edition, stuck in the mid-70s for a few years, then a jump to 89 in 2004 and a steady 91 across the 2005 through 2007 games as he cemented himself at left tackle.
