Texas All-American, Broncos right guard, 104 starts in eight years
Dan Neil was born on October 21, 1973, in Houston, Texas, and started 49 consecutive games at Texas, earning consensus All-American honors in 1996. Denver selected him in the third round of the 1997 draft, 67th overall. He appeared in three games as a rookie and was inactive for most of Denver's run to Super Bowl XXXII.
He took over at right guard in 1998 and started the Broncos' win in Super Bowl XXXIII. Madden NFL 99 put him at a calculated 72 for that 1998 season. He started every game he played from 1998 through 2003. Madden NFL 02 rated him 87 for 2001, the season the NFL fined him $15,000 for a block that broke the leg of New England linebacker Bryan Cox. Madden NFL 03 rated him 95 for the 2002 season.
A thumb injury cost him the last two games of 2003, and knee and abdominal injuries ended his 2004 season early. Madden NFL 05 rated him 95 for that 2004 season, his last. Denver released him afterward, closing an eight-year career of 108 games and 104 starts, all with the Broncos. He was inducted into the Texas Athletics Hall of Honor in 2008.
