Ryan McNeil led the entire NFL in interceptions in 1997, snatching nine passes in his first season with the Rams. He was a ball hawk before the term was common, a consensus All-American cornerback at Miami whom Detroit took 33rd overall in 1993.
He never stayed anywhere long. After four years with the Lions he bounced through St. Louis, Cleveland, Dallas, San Diego, and Denver over the back half of his career, finally making a Pro Bowl in 2001 with the Chargers. He retired with 31 interceptions, 14 fumble recoveries, and 699 tackles across eleven seasons.
Madden tracked the rise and the fade. He is a 51 in the 1996 edition, still an unproven starter, builds to an 84 in the 2000 game, and hits a career-high 90 in the 2003 edition before dropping to an 80 the next year.
