Lin Elliott walked on at Texas Tech and left as the school's all-time leading scorer, then went undrafted in 1992 and won the Cowboys' kicking job as a rookie. He was excellent right away, a then-record twenty-four field goals and 119 points, the reliable leg on a team about to win everything. He was on the roster for the Super Bowl XXVII champions after the 1992 season, a ring in his first year.

Madden barely bothered to rate him, and the one card it gave him proves it. His only appearance is a 43 in Madden NFL 94, built on a modest 53 kick power and a 33 accuracy with placeholder zeros in the fields that do not apply to a kicker, the game treating a specialist as an afterthought. It is a low number for a man who had just kicked a Super Bowl team through a season, one of those cases where the rating and the resume simply do not talk to each other.
