Notre Dame All-American who blocked a kick in the Super Bowl

Todd Lyght was the highest defensive back off the board in 1991, taken fifth overall by the Rams after two consensus All-American seasons at Notre Dame. He held up his end for a long time, then peaked exactly when it mattered: 1999, six interceptions, 112 return yards, a touchdown, and first-team All-Pro honors as the Rams turned into the Greatest Show on Turf.

In Super Bowl XXXIV against Tennessee, a 23-16 St. Louis win, Lyght did the quiet, decisive things. Two solo tackles, a pass deflection, and a blocked field goal that helped keep the Titans a step behind on a night that ended with Kevin Dyson stopped at the one. He earned his lone Pro Bowl nod for that season and finished a 12-year career with 37 interceptions and four returned for scores across stops in St. Louis and Detroit.

His rating tells the story of a corner who arrived good and got great. He was a 68 in the 1996 edition, then jumped all the way to a 92 in the 2000 game after the title run, before the number tapered as he crossed into his thirties in Detroit.
