Henry Ellard: 13,777 receiving yards, NFL yards leader in 1988

Henry Ellard was born on July 21, 1961 in Fresno, California, and stayed home for college at Fresno State, where he set an NCAA record with 1,510 receiving yards in 1982 and was also an All-American triple jumper. The Los Angeles Rams took him in the second round, 32nd overall, in 1983 and used him mostly as a punt returner. He returned two punts for touchdowns in 1984, made the Pro Bowl as a returner and was named first-team All-Pro.

In 1988 Ellard led the NFL with 1,414 receiving yards on 86 catches and was first-team All-Pro a second time. In the second week of 1989 he caught 12 passes for 230 yards and three touchdowns against Indianapolis, and he made a third Pro Bowl that season. Madden NFL 92 carried a calculated 82 for his 1991 year, a fourth straight 1,000-yard season.

He left the Rams after 1993 holding franchise records for receptions and receiving yards, then caught 74 passes for 1,397 yards for Washington in 1994; Madden NFL 95 rated that season a calculated 95. He led the league at 19.5 yards per catch in 1996, a year Madden NFL 97 rated a stored 67. Ellard retired after 1998 with 814 receptions for 13,777 yards and 65 touchdowns.
