Mike Cofer was born February 19, 1964, in Columbia, South Carolina, kicked at North Carolina State, and entered the NFL undrafted, playing his first two games for the New Orleans Saints in 1987. San Francisco signed him for 1988, and he made 27 of 38 field goals and 40 of 41 extra points for the Super Bowl XXIII champions.
In 1989 he converted 29 of 36 field goals and 49 of 51 extra points for 136 points, led the NFL in scoring, was named first-team All-Pro, and kicked for a second title in Super Bowl XXIV. He made 24 of 36 in 1990 and then 14 of 28 in 1991, and Madden NFL 92 listed him at a calculated 56 for that 1991 season.
He hit 18 of 27 field goals in 1992 and 16 of 26 in 1993. Madden NFL 93 put him at a calculated 36 for the 1992 season, and Madden NFL 94 at a calculated 39 for 1993. San Francisco released him after 1993, and he closed his career with four games for the Indianapolis Colts in 1995. Across eight seasons and 102 games with New Orleans, San Francisco and Indianapolis, Cofer made 133 of 201 field goals and 303 of 312 extra points for 702 career points.
