Irving Fryar: 1984 No. 1 pick, 851 catches in 17 seasons

Irving Fryar was born on September 28, 1962 in Mount Holly, New Jersey, and played at Rancocas Valley Regional High School before becoming a unanimous All-American at Nebraska in 1983. New England made him the first overall pick of the 1984 draft, the second wide receiver ever taken first. He was a Pro Bowl selection and second-team All-Pro after the 1985 season and scored New England's only touchdown in Super Bowl XX. Madden NFL 92 carried a calculated 53 for his 1991 season, his first with 1,000 receiving yards.

Traded to Miami in 1993, Fryar made the Pro Bowl in both 1993 and 1994 and was second-team All-Pro again in 1994; Madden NFL 95 listed a calculated 95 for that year. He signed with Philadelphia in March 1996 and made two more Pro Bowls, and on October 20, 1996 he caught four touchdown passes at 34 years old.

Madden NFL 98 gave his 1997 season a calculated 89. Fryar closed his career with two seasons in Washington, retiring after 2000 with 851 receptions for 12,785 yards and 84 touchdowns. He was convicted of mortgage fraud in 2015 and served eight months of a five-year sentence. He was inducted into the Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame in 2023.
