Alabama bruiser, Rookie of the Year, undone by weight
Eddie Lacy ran angry. The Packers grabbed him 61st overall in 2013 out of an Alabama program he had helped to three national titles, and he answered with 1,178 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns to win Offensive Rookie of the Year and a Pro Bowl trip. His spin move was violent enough that fans dubbed it the 'Circle Button' after the video-game input.
He followed with 1,139 yards in 2014, and Madden rewarded the two-year burst, lifting him from a 76 in the 2013 edition to an 87 the next year and a peak of 90 in the 2015 game. Then his weight became the story. Conditioning problems and injuries sapped his production, and by 2017 he was in Seattle on a contract stuffed with weigh-in bonuses.
Lacy finished with 3,614 rushing yards and 23 touchdowns across five seasons, a career that promised more than it delivered but still gave Green Bay two of the better power-running years of the Aaron Rodgers era.
