The Lions linebacker who led the NFL in solo tackles in 2014
DeAndre Levy's finest season was a quiet masterpiece. In 2014 he piled up 151 tackles, led the NFL in solo stops and added 2.5 sacks for a Lions defense that finished among the league's best. The third-round pick out of Wisconsin, 76th overall in 2009, had grown from special teamer into the range-covering heart of Detroit's front seven.
Knee and hip injuries then cut him down fast. He played just one game in 2015, tore a meniscus in 2016 and was released in March 2017. Away from the field he became an outspoken advocate for sexual assault survivors and a blunt critic of the NFL's handling of brain injuries.
His Madden line reflects the sudden rise and fall. Levy was a 56 in the 2009 edition as a rookie, climbed steadily into the low 80s, then spiked to a career-high 93 in the 2015 game on the strength of that 2014 campaign. It was the last high mark he would post before injuries ended the climb.
