As a rookie he lined up next to Sean Taylor in a Washington secondary teammates called Area 51, after their jersey numbers, and then Taylor was murdered in November 2007 and LaRon Landry had to grow up fast at free safety. The sixth overall pick out of LSU in 2007 arrived like a collision and looked carved from stone, drawing the nickname Iron Man for a physique that became its own talking point. He collected 16 interceptions across stops in Washington, with the Jets, and in Indianapolis, and his lone Pro Bowl came after the 2012 season in New York. Multiple positive tests for performance-enhancing drugs led to an indefinite suspension in 2015 that effectively ended his career.

Madden pegged him as a rising star early. He debuted at 85 in the 2007 edition and jumped to 93 in the 2008 edition on the strength of that hitting. The number settled into the high 80s and touched 90 again in the 2011 edition before drifting downward, to 82 by the 2013 edition, as injuries and suspensions mounted.
