The right tackle who ran the players' union

Eric Winston never made a Pro Bowl, but he started 87 games at right tackle for Houston and became a recognizable voice in the sport off the field. Miami sent the national champion and All-American into the third round of the 2006 draft, 66th overall, and he protected the edge for the Texans through 2011 before stops in Kansas City, Arizona, and Cincinnati.

He is remembered for more than blocking. In 2012, after Chiefs fans appeared to cheer an injury to quarterback Matt Cassel, Winston delivered a blunt postgame speech, telling reporters this was not the Roman Colosseum and calling the reaction sickening. Two years later he was elected president of the NFL Players Association, a post he held from 2014 to 2020. His Madden number rewarded the steady work, rising from a 74 in 2006 to a 90 in the 2011 edition and a career-best 91 in 2012, then falling into the low-to-mid 70s during his Bengals years.
