Adalius Thomas was born on August 18, 1977 in Equality, Alabama, and played defensive end at Southern Miss, where he was Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year in 1998 and 1999. Baltimore drafted him in the sixth round, 186th overall, in 2000. He was inactive for 12 games as a rookie on the team that won Super Bowl XXXV. Madden NFL 03 rated him 56 in 2002, the season he started 12 games at defensive end.

He was selected to the Pro Bowl as a special teams player in 2003, when he led the Ravens with 23 special teams tackles. Moved to linebacker, he returned three turnovers for touchdowns in 2005 and led the NFL in non-offensive scores, and Madden NFL 06 rated him 86. His 2006 season brought 106 tackles, 11 sacks, a second Pro Bowl and first-team All-Pro honors. Madden NFL 07 rated him 89.

He signed a five-year, $35 million contract with New England on March 3, 2007 and started Super Bowl XLII, where he had two sacks and a forced fumble. Madden NFL 09 rated him 95 in 2008, a season an arm injury ended in Week 10. New England released him on April 26, 2010, and he did not play again. He finished with 53 sacks.
