Justin Smiley Madden Career 2005-2011 - Peak 89 OVR
Alabama guard, second-round pick, seven years starting inside
San Francisco took Justin Smiley in the second round, 46th overall, out of Alabama in 2004, and he became a fixture on the interior for four seasons. In 2008 he cashed in as the first unrestricted free agent to sign that offseason, joining Miami on a five-year, 25 million dollar deal to help rebuild the Dolphins line under Bill Parcells. Shoulder trouble dogged him there, and a season-ending injury cut his time in Miami short.
Smiley's rating climbed steadily before it stalled. He debuted at 77 in the 2004 edition and rose every year to 86 by 2007, cresting at 89 in the 2008 edition as he arrived in Miami. A 2010 trade to Jacksonville and a brief Oakland stop closed it out. He retired in 2011 with 88 games and 78 starts, then went home to Alabama, briefly considering a coaching return before moving on.
