Give Lousaka Polite a yard to gain and the down was as good as converted. In 2009 the Miami fullback ran or dove for the line on third or fourth and one sixteen times and moved the chains on every single one, then went 14 of 15 the next season. Undrafted out of Pittsburgh in 2004, where he was the first three-year captain in school history, he built a nine-year career on doing the least glamorous job better than anyone.

He was a blocker and a battering ram first, finishing with only 296 rushing yards on 95 carries, but the value was never in the totals. He signed with New England late in his career and reached Super Bowl XLVI, and years later added an MBA from the University of Miami.

Madden rewarded the specialist. He sat at 80 and 81 in the late 2000s editions, then his short-yardage certainty pushed the card to a career-best 91 in the 2010 edition, holding at 90 the following year before the position faded from the league.
