Derrick Dockery was a lot of man to move, six foot six and 346 pounds, and Washington found him in the third round of the 2003 draft out of Texas, where he had been a consensus All-American. He started early and rarely left the field, stringing together 109 consecutive starts at guard.

His market moment came in 2007, when Buffalo handed him a seven-year, $49 million contract with an $18 million signing bonus, at the time among the richest ever paid to a guard. Two years later he was back in Washington on another multiyear deal, then finished with Dallas in 2011 and 2012. Away from the line he later co-founded Yellow Ribbons United to support military families.

His Madden numbers rose with his reputation as a run-blocker. He entered as a 68 in the 2003 edition, a raw rookie, and climbed steadily through his first Washington stint before peaking at an 88 in 2007 and a 91 in the 2008 game, right as that Buffalo payday made him one of the league's better-paid linemen. After the move he settled back into the high 70s and low 80s.
