Charles Tillman was born on February 23, 1981 in Chicago and played college football at Louisiana-Lafayette before the Bears took him 35th overall in the 2003 draft. He started 13 games as a rookie, the season Madden NFL 04 rated him 65. He held the left cornerback job for seven years, and Madden NFL 07 rated him 88 for 2006, the year Chicago reached Super Bowl XLI.

On November 4, 2012, against Tennessee, he forced four fumbles in one game, the most by any player in a game since 1960. He finished 2012 with ten forced fumbles, a single-season record, and was named first-team All-Pro and selected to a second consecutive Pro Bowl. Madden NFL 25 rated him 95 for 2013, a season a triceps injury ended after eight games. The same injury limited him to two games in 2014, and Madden NFL 15 rated him 87 for that year.

He signed with Carolina in 2015 and started 12 games, with Madden NFL 16 rating him 81 for the season. He received the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year award for 2013. He finished with 38 interceptions, 44 forced fumbles and 930 tackles, and signed a one-day contract with Chicago to retire in July 2016.
