First-round 1997 pick who made one start and threw 52 passes

Jim Druckenmiller was born on September 19, 1972, in Allentown, Pennsylvania, and attended Northampton Area High School before a postgraduate year at Fork Union Military Academy. He started two seasons at Virginia Tech, winning 20 games and finishing with 4,383 passing yards and 34 touchdowns. San Francisco drafted him 26th overall in 1997.

With Steve Young concussed, Druckenmiller made his only NFL start on September 7, 1997, against the St. Louis Rams. He completed 10 of 28 passes for 102 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions in a 15-12 win. Madden NFL 98 put him at a calculated 59 for that 1997 season. He appeared in three more games that year and two in 1998, attempting no passes in either.

A rape charge filed against him in Blacksburg, Virginia, in April 1999 ended in acquittal that July. The 49ers traded him to Miami on September 6, 1999, and the Dolphins released him on August 16, 2000, without his playing a regular-season game there. He played for the XFL's Memphis Maniax and the Arena Football League's Los Angeles Avengers in 2001. He finished with six NFL games and 21 completions in 52 attempts for 239 yards, one touchdown and four interceptions.

How to read these: Each row is the player’s rating in that year’s Madden, listed by the NFL season it covers (Madden NFL 2001 = the 2000 season). Madden sets its ratings before the season is played, so they reflect the previous season’s performance - a player’s breakout year tends to show up as a jump in the following year’s game.
About the starred rows*: Several early Madden releases rated players on a 1-15 scale, as printed in the game manuals, rather than the modern 0-99. We store those ratings converted to 0-99 (each manual point is about 6.6) so you can compare players across eras at a glance - use the 0-99 / 1-15 toggle above the table to see the original numbers on those seasons. EA didn’t publish an overall rating in those games, so the OVR* values for those years are our own calculation, the average of the player’s two best ratings.
Note: Some Madden releases tracked fewer attributes than others. Cells shown as - were not published by EA that year.
