Iheanyi Uwaezuoke Madden Career 1998-1999 - Peak 85 OVR

Iheanyi Uwaezuoke walked on at California, earned a scholarship, and turned himself into a fifth-round pick in 1996, then made his NFL living as a return man and depth receiver. He spent three seasons in San Francisco, from 1996 to 1998, running back punts and filling out the receiver rotation.

Madden's grades for him jump the way a role player's do. The game rated him a 69 for the 1997 season and then an 85 for 1998, a generous number built on an 88 speed rating, before settling him back into the 60s once he moved on to Carolina. The 85 flattered a player whose value was mostly on special teams, but the speed that drove it was real.

Uwaezuoke finished with 29 catches and a punt-return touchdown across five seasons for the 49ers, Dolphins, Lions and Panthers. He was a return specialist and a spare receiver, exactly the fast, useful body a roster carries at the back end. Madden's numbers, high on speed and thin on everything else, tracked exactly that kind of player.
