Christopher William Gray was born on June 19, 1970 in Birmingham, Alabama, played guard at Auburn and was a second-team All-SEC selection in 1992. Miami drafted him in the fifth round, 132nd overall, in 1993. He started at right guard for the Dolphins in 1995 and 1996, and Madden NFL 97 listed him at 74 for the 1996 season.
Gray played eight games for Chicago in 1997, then signed with Seattle in 1998 and stayed a decade. He worked at center through 2000 and at guard afterwards, and over his career he lined up at every position on the Seahawks offensive line. Madden NFL 02 dropped him to 53 for 2001 and Madden NFL 03 had him at 63 for 2002, seasons in which he started all 16 games.
He blocked for Matt Hasselbeck and Shaun Alexander through five straight playoff appearances from 2003 to 2007, including Alexander's MVP year in 2005 and Super Bowl XL; Madden NFL 07 listed him at 86 for 2006. Gray retired before the 2008 season because a lower back and spine injury put him at risk of paralysis. He received the Ed Block Courage Award in 2008 and entered the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame in 2015. He played 208 NFL games and holds the Seahawks record with 121 consecutive starts.
